10th Moharram (youm-e-ashura)

We Mahdavis on the occasion of Youm Ashura (10th day of Moharram), ask forgiveness from our brethren.

This practice of asking for forgiveness just after Fajr prayers on this day is in following with the practice of marty-e-Karbala Hz Sayedna Imam Hussain RZA. On this day before proceeding for war he asked forgiveness with all his caravan members.

Why Do We Observe This Tradition On The 10th of Muharram Every Year? PDF Print E-mail

Some ritual practices observed traditionally by our community are very simple and easy to perform but carry a lot of significance. To ask forgiveness for our words and deeds which might have hurt or offended our fellow-beings is a simple thing but it works a lot to clear the atmosphere of hatred and animosity among the Brothers and Sisters in Faith. Even where there is no animosity it brings about a person to person mutual understanding. It promotes harmony and peace among members of the community.

Once the Noble PropehtSAS said: "If Prophethood was bestowed after me, it would have been on Umar"

A significant addition to the strength of Islam was the conversion of 'Hz UmarRZ bin Al-Khattab' in Zul-Hijjah, the sixth year of Prophethood, three days following the conversion of Hz HamzahRZ . He was a man of dauntless courage and resolution, feared and respected in and around Makkah, and previously a bitter opponent of Islam. The traditional account reveals that the ProphetSAS once performed dua and said:

"O Allah! Give strength to Islam especially through either of two men you love more 'Umar bin Al-Khattab or Abu Jahl bin Hisham."
