        AN APPEAL FOR MOON SIGHTING
                                    RUIYAT E HILAL
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

Moonsighting Appeal for the Month of  Shawwal 1427 H.

On 29th of Ramazan  i.e. Sunday, the  22nd of October 2006.

 Assalaamu Alaikum,

Faqeer Abulfatah Syed Nusrat earnestly appeals to all the Brothers and Sisters of the Mahdavia Islamic Community of North America to make an effort to sight the New Moon (Hilal) of Shawwal on Sunday, the 29th of Ramazan 1427 H, corresponding to  the 22nd  of October 2006.

For the last one year we have been making this effort on the 29th of every Lunar month. By the Grace of God the results have been very encouraging. The response, especially from our youth, who came forward to try to sight the new moon on the 29th of all the Lunar months has been very helpful in determining the 1st of all the Islamic months throughout the last year. They have been promptly reporting the result of their effort. Many of these Shahideen have been giving their Shahadah (witness) immediately after sighting the new moon under oath.

This humble Faqueer hopes that this year many more Shahideen will come forward to join in this very enthusiastic collective effort of our community. If you sight the Moon, please call the numbers given below immediately and give a statement on Oath (Shahadah).

Note:* Moon sighting should be by Unaided Naked Eyes.

(Sighting by Optical Aids such as Binoculars etc. will not be acceptable)

* Sighting should be by at least Two or more adults.
         * Second or Third party sighting is not acceptable.

 May Allah bless you,
 Faqueer Abulfatah Syed Nusrat

Moon sighting
LIVE UPDATES on every 29th of Lunar Months

“ Fast according to its sighting (the new moon of Ramazan) and break your fast according to it’s sighting (the new moon of Shawwal). And, if it is hidden from you, by clouds then fast 30 Days."                                                            (Bukhari 1909)

   In another wording he said:

“ Then complete the number of days as 30.”   (Bukhari 1907)
“When you see it  (the new moon of Ramazan) then fast, and when you see it  (the new moon of Shawwal), then break your fast.”                                             (Bukhari 1900 & Muslim 1080)

Further, the ProphetSAS ordered the Ummah not to start fasting until the Hilal is seen and not to end fasting of Ramazan until the new moon of Shawwal is seen:

“ Do not fast until you see the new moon (of Ramazan) or you complete the number (as 30 days). And do not break your fast until you see the new moon (of Shawwal) or you complete the number (as 30 days ).”                        (Abu Da'ud and Nasa’i )

Please read the above Ahadith carefully and especially the last one. You will conclude that we should not be mislead by the groups of our Muslim brothers who want the Ummah to give up the fourteen centuries old practice of sighting new moon by putting forth several excuses. A group is insisting on the dependability of modern astronomical calculations and forcefully pleading for doing away with the “confusion” and the trouble caused by seeing the new moon in planning for “Eid Celebration” etc.  Even if these Calculations are one hundred percent dependable, we cannot give up what the ProphetSAS has asked us to do, because Qur’an has clearly laid down that one who obeyed the Prophet he has indeed obeyed Allah.

Please see how the Last of the Prophets has taught us to “ calculate” and to determine the beginning and the end of the month:

“ Verily, the (lunar) month is of 29 days, so do not fast until you see the new moon, and do not break the fast until you see the new moon.”

“And if it is hidden from you by clouds, then complete the number (as  thirty days).”
(Abu Da’ud  2326 and Nasa’i 2128)

The formula for calculation given by the Messenger of God SAS is so simple, natural, logical and feasible that even a poor farmer living in a remote village can follow it with full assurance of accuracy. Let us therefore, stick to our path of following the Divine Guidance and avoid all sorts of drifts, deviations, distractions, distortions and derelictions etc. etc.

This is our foremost duty because our beloved Imam, Hazrat Syed Muhammad, the Promised MahdiSAS exhorted us:

“ Our religion is the Book of God and following the Messenger of God MuhammadSAS.

(For details, please see this Faqueer’s separate write-up on the subject).

Hence the request to make an effort to sight the new moon for Ramazan on the 29th of Shaban corresponding to Saturday, the 23rd  of September 2006. This effort, Insha-Allah would be rewarding in the hereafter since it would be a very important religious service to the Community at large.

If you sight the moon please immediately call the phone numbers given below and give a statement on oath.

  May Allah bless you,

 Faqueer Abulfatah Syed Nusrat

Assalaamu Alaikum,

The above is an appeal from Hazrath Abul Fatah Syed Nusrath Sahab Qibla Tashrifullahi. This appeal is significant in the light of the predetermined dates of 1st of Ramadan and Eid-ul Fitr already announced by some Islamic Organizations based on calculations. We request all our members to help us determine the correct date of the beginning and end of Ramadan. Please pass on this appeal to other Mahdavi brothers and sisters as much as you can.
